I have really enjoyed my time training with you guys
and want to thank you, and especially Graeme, for helping me get my health and
fitness back on track. If you ever get a Crossfit Box up and running I'll be
the first to sign up! I also want to let you know that as a trainer Graeme has
been amazing. He has inspired me to press on with this journey and shown me
that I can do things I never thought possible. I can't thank him enough.

I started training with Graeme because I was sick of the same old gym classes and getting no results. Now I look forward to training, it's always different & interesting.
I can lift more, do more and feel fitter. In the last two months I've lost 6kgs. I'm aiming for 6 more but really I'm just happier already.

As a relatively experienced weightlifter and
martial artist of over 10 years, I was experiencing a real lack of enthusiasm
and motivation to train in recent months. I'd always been interested in
CrossFit, however I found opportunities to participate limited either due to
fees or distance. One particular gym I tried out gave minimal input into proper
lifting technique yet expected me to lift weights beyond that of a CrossFit
beginner (resulting in aggravation of an old back injury which led to
considerable downtime and consequently loss of motivation to train). Another
gym advised they were not taking on anymore beginners (first I've heard of a
gym that didn't want new members!).
Then one day, as I was turning into the drive-thru
of KFC Maroubra, a black SUV with 'CrossFit Maroubra' splashed across it drove
past. I ‘Googled’ the name and found they were located nearby. I went to see
them that afternoon. After a pleasant chat with the owners Lynn and Graeme, I
agreed to do a couple of free sessions to see if it was for me. Sure enough it
was! I realised that after the first session. I signed up immediately and have
been very consistent ever since.
It's a great facility but the best thing about the
place is the owners/trainers. Graeme is an excellent lifting coach with all the
time in the world for his clients. His input is very comprehensive and
effective. The advice he offers is better than anything I've received or
experienced in my previous years of training. He is great at scaling the WODs
to suit the individual, so you still get a great work-out that is within your
capacity but still gets you out of your comfort zone. I have found every single
workout both exhaustive and empowering and leaves me wanting more and looking
forward to the next one – a feeling I have not experienced in several years.
Lynn is a gentle soul with a great understanding of
anatomy, massage and recuperation techniques. Her advice for warm-downs has
allowed me to recover a lot quicker than I used to from workouts which then
enables me to back-up day after day, inching me closer to my fitness goals.
I would recommend CrossFit Maroubra to anyone
interested in improving their fitness.

Health and fitness has been part of my life since a
very young age. I practised Thai boxing for 10 years and competed in endurance
adventure races. CrossFit provides a robust and complex way to integrate
strength, cardio and functional movement training into the one high-intensity
program.
CrossFit Maroubra is a professional and friendly
gym that caters for all levels of experience. Graeme and Lynn provide an
excellent and mature attitude and focus on mentoring and training so everybody
achieves their goals.

Joining crossfit at 63 years of age was always
going to be a challenge; challenging because of my age and age-related body
changes and injuries, the new language (WOD, burpees etc.) and my personal
embarrassment of recognising the limit of what I could do against those much
younger and fitter.
It has been a journey of surprise. I say
that because I became stronger very quickly and I can do much more than I
anticipated. My workouts are modified in ways that allow me to be part of the
group, doing whatever happens to be the WOD. I'm usually scared before each
session but I show up anyway. I tell my kids I love it, not that I'm scared.
The scary part is about taking on anything that is new and different.
Carrying injury, as is often the case if
one is older, was problematic for me, but not for the trainers. The skill,
knowledge and professionalism of Graeme and Lynn has made me feel safe and
comfortable within the CrossFit setting. I don't get to slouch and I am pushed
and encouraged to be the best I can be on any given day. There is a skill to
engaging people in a way that is unobtrusive and quietly positive. Graeme and
Lynn both have theses qualities. For that, I will always be grateful.
